Tis’ the festive season again…and along with it a much longed trip back to my roots, my childhood, my hometown… Actually not as we reached only Kuantan and Kemaman, while my hometown, Kerteh is still 30 minutes away, but the food, the atmosphere, filled with nostalgia of days gone by…
Some geography first?
The first day of CNY, we went back to Kuantan after completing our angpaw and house-visiting rounds at KL. Reached there after 4 hours and we were greeted by the East Coast sea breeze and a dazzling sunset, reminiscent of our daily Friday trips to Kuantan, and Saturdays to Kemaman (the weekend off-days at Terengganu are on Fridays and Saturdays).
Our family has expanded by some new members! Added by many other taukes (children) in the house, my uncle and aunt must have their hands full!
The 2nd day, after another round of visiting relatives at Kuantan, we travelled further up the peninsula to Kemaman, Terengganu via the trunk road and got some views of kampung life we always lived among a long time ago.
It was already nightfall when we reached, first off we went to visit my Ma’s best friend, Aunt Ching. Kemaman’s keropok and their special sauce, I’ve already forgot about them!
Back at Kuantan (at the same night), we headed off with our Kuantan relatives for some nightlife and bonding via Karaoke and supper at Kemaman Kopitiam.
Concluding our trip back to our roots, a commerative group photo of the Fong Family!
